Welcome our Newest Writer, and read about some upcoming site events!
As you, loyal reader(s), may have noticed, there's a new name in the "Published by" heading above some of our articles. We want to extend a warm welcome to our newest writer, Monkeyface. You may have already seen his latest work, but if not, I encourage you to read his review of Troma's "Ferocious Female Freedom Fighters". I've known him for a while, and I trust he's gonna do a great job. I look forward to seeing a lot more of his posts, and hopefully you will too.
That now brings us to 3 full time writers - BerserkerXL, Monkeyface, and myself, along with our part time writer Jenny who hasn't picked a nickname for herself... yet. Maybe you can all comment to this and tell us what her nickname should be? That might be fun.
I also want to take this time to let you all know that in the upcoming month of July, we're going to be doing some themed review weeks. We haven't totally decided what those themes should be, but we know the last theme week will be a zombie movie week. It will all culminate around early August with our very first giveaway. We're really pretty excited about this giveaway so we don't want to tip our hands as to what the prize is just yet, all we can say is that you'll just have to wait and see, but we promise it's pretty cool. I'm personally really jazzed about it, so stick around to see what it is.
Thanks readers!
The Machine Girl
The Machine Girl (aka Katuaude mashin gâru) is written and directed by Japanese director Noboru Iguchi, and stars Minase Yashiro as Ami Hyuga - the main and titular character. Ami Hyuga is like any other young college girl. She loves her younger brother and she can shoot some mean hoops. After her parents commit suicide due to her father being set up on murder charges, she's left in charge to take care of her younger brother Yu. Yu is generally a good kid, he doesn't usually get into too much trouble, but lately that's changed. Yu and his friend Takashi have recently gotten involved with the son of a yakuza, Sho. They've gotten into a situation where they owe money to Sho, who would rather punish them then take the 20,000 yen they were able to raise. Sho gives them a day extension to raise 200,000 yen - an impossible task for a couple of high school students. When Yu and Takashi can't come up with the money, Sho and his gang of bullies drop them off a parking structure onto their heads.
Ferocious Female Freedom Fighters
What do you get when you cross an Indonesian women’s wrestling movie, Troma Entertainment, and an action star who talks like Elvis? You get one of the funniest redubs in film history… Ferocious Female Freedom Fighters! FFFF is the story of Bambi, an exceptional Greco-roman wrestler on her way to the top. Unfortunately her brother has come down with a fatal case of dickosis, a made-up ailment where a buildup of semen goes straight to your brain. The only remedy is surgery, or oral release by a hooker. It’s a shame, but I guess there aren’t any 10 year old prostitutes in the Philippines… I had heard differently!
Warlords of the 21st Century aka Battletruck!
Gas is at 4 dollars a gallon here in the U.S. It seems like it's rising daily. Obviously oil is very important in all of our daily lives but it won't last forever. Unfortunately, the upcoming Oil Wars predicted by the 1982 post apocalyptic Road Warrior-esqe flick Warlords of the 21st Century, aka Battletruck, directed by Harley Cokeliss is going to jack prices sky high. If what this film says is true, it'll top out at $59.99 a liter before it becomes a rare commodity that roving bands of soldiers will destroy small villages for.
