Wolf Creek

According to the missing persons website for Australia, “35,000 people are reported missing each year”  With that said I would find it hard to trust anyone if I were to ever travel to Australia- good advice to live by, or maybe stay alive by.  We start our adventure with a young man and a car purchased for $1500.  After trying a few times he gets the pile started and goes off to pick up his companions, and together they head off to the crater at Wolf Creek.

That young man is Ben Mitchell (Nathan Philips), and his companions are Liz Hunter, and Kristy Earl.  After a day of hiking, they return to find that the “Lamborghini” they purchased isn’t exactly in working order so they decide it’s best to just sleep in it overnight.  During the night a stranger comes upon them and offers to help them out by towing them back to his scrapyard.  Shortly after their arrival they find out that they have made a horrible mistake.

Overall this movie is pretty good.  It has two really strong characters Liz and Mick Taylor(John Jarratt).  After everyone gets to the kill zone the story revolves around the back and forth action between them.  Mick plays to his Aussie stereotype and is one of my favorite killers out of the horror movies that I’ve seen.  He even quotes the great Crocodile Dundee in this movie.  There was also a short car chase scene that kinda reminded me of the Road Warrior.  Mick is a real charmer, but who could really resist Aussie charm like that?  To play it safe if I were ever in Australia I don’t think I’d trust a tow from a  guy like Mick, or anyone in there really.

I really was cheering for Liz because she put up such a great fight.  Liz was the first to break free of her bonds, and she frees Kristy.  She almost kills Mick and at one point I thought she was going to get away. Unfortunately Liz brings a Swiss Army knife to a knife fight and loses, and she got it the worst out of them all.  I would have liked to have seen Ben and Kristy put up a little more of a fight then what they did, but we all can’t be strong can we?

Although I would have liked to have seen more action from Ben and Kristy, I still like this movie. If you are a fan of thrillers I recommend you see it.  It had me at the edge of my seat until the end…  Well maybe to the end of Kristy.  I give Wolf Creek 4 meteorite craters out of 5.
