Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things
Most people know my taste in movies can be pretty weird and obscure. So it’s very rare that someone will recommend a movie to me, especially around Halloween. But a brave soul said I should watch something from her childhood that she still loves to this day, Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things. Being that it was a few years before my time I didn’t give it much hope; classics for me don’t begin much before 1978. But it was directed by someone I am familiar with, Bob Clark, who went on to make Porky's, Rhinestone, Loose Cannons, and Black Christmas which I reviewed a couple years ago. So I decided to give it a shot because something 3 years my senior that I had never seen before should at least bring 90 minutes of enjoyment to my life right!
Puppet Master 3 – Toulon’s Revenge
Puppet Master 3 - Toulon's Revenge is actually a prequel to the first 2 movies both set in America. Although the dates are skewed a bit (1 takes place in 1939), this one takes place in Berlin in 1941. A Lieutenant in Hitler's army attends Andre Toulon's puppet show and isn't too happy with the material, namely the fact that a Hitler puppet is the butt of all the jokes. Lt. Stein confronts Toulon (Guy Rolfe) and tries to get information about how he is able to make his puppets move without strings. He takes some pictures of the puppets without Toulon knowing and reports it back to his superior, Major Krauss (Richard Lynch). Krauss and Dr. Hess (Ian Abercrombie) have been working on a way to reanimate dead German soldiers for help against the Russian army. Unfortunately things haven't been going too well and they believe Toulon's work may hold the key.
Chopper Chicks in Zombietown
Sometimes when you are looking for a movie to watch little things outside of the synopsis will catch your eye and lure you into the idea that this could be a good movie. Chopper Chicks in Zombie town just happens to be one of those movies for me. Let's dissect the title: "Chopper" - I love American Chopper the series; I watch it every week and I have a new found love for bikes even though you probably will never catch me on one. "Chicks" - I'm a guy right, what's not to like about chicks, especially those on a chopper! "Zombietown" - This sounds like a pretty crazy place, with zombies all over. I think you'd spend most of the time watching your ass for brain hungry zombies, but at least it's not Cleveland! The title has all the making of a fun, scary, rip-roaringly good time right... plus it has Billy Bob Thornton in one of his first roles, and Martha Quinn in one of her last!
Let Me In
I’m always skeptical of new horror movies that I see in the theater. Very rarely do they have the scariness or “Oh DAMN” factor that I’m looking for; and I’ve yet to come across anything with a story that engulfed me and actually made me take a step back and think about how meaningful a movie can be… until now! Let Me In is a remake of the Norwegian movie titled Let the Right One In. Normally remakes of any kind are garbage, but if you prefer to be 100% in the dark about the movie let me just say that every horror movie fan NEEDS to see this, and preferably in the theater!
