Best and Worst of 2008 – a Review of Reviews in Review.

review Best and Worst of 2008 a Review of Reviews in Review. It’s the last day of the year 2008, and this marks the first year that we’ve been reviewing films.  Well, it hasn’t been a full year – we started this current incarnation of the website on March 8th, 2008 with our first review of Larry Cohen’s “The Stuff” (note to ourselves – review more Larry Cohen films!).  Anyhow, since it’s the end of the year, we figured if you really wanted to you could browse around the site and look at all the stuff we’ve covered, but if you’re the lazy type like us, this condensed view of some of our highlights and lowlights might be right up your alley.  In this post you’ll find some clips and summary of our highest rated films and lowest.  So… without further adieu, let’s get on with the show:

Peter O’Brian found alive and living well.

If you’ve been following this site for a while, you’ll know that one of our favorite actors on this site is New Zealand’s Peter O’Brian.  He’s starred in The Stabilizer, Rambu – The Intruder, and Angel of Fury, movies we’ve coincidentally reviewed (although he’s been in others that we haven’t reviewed yet).

After a few movies, he pretty much fell off the map, and there hasn’t been very reliable information on his whereabout or what he’s been up to since his end of his film career.  Well, now all that’s changed, thanks to an update from one of our readers, Jack J and his site En lejemorder ser tilbage and his friend Ian at HK and Cult Film News.  It seems that Peter is living in Indonesia and working as an English teacher.  Luckly Ian was able to track him down, and has started written correspondence with him.  You can read more about how Peter got his start in films here and here.

Thanks to both Jack J and Ian for this exciting news!

Here at IB.net we seem to be finding and watching a lot of movies from Indonesian cinema. They really love action flicks with a lot of karate, gun fights, and explosions. We’ve also reviewed a few Cynthia Rothrock movies in the last few months. So it was a treat to find her in an Indonesian movie… and if that wasn’t good enough, we found one with the god of action faces, Peter O’Brian! These 3 are a staple of cheesy low budget action films. Needless to say we had very high hopes for Angel of Fury, the 1991 film by Rambu (aka The Intruder) and The Stabilizer writer Deddy Armand. Wait a minute it’s called Angel of Fury… didn’t we just review a movie called Angel of Fury with Cynthia Rothrock? Yes we did, but that is a different one if you can believe that!

When you hear the names of movies like Commando, Double Impact, Hard to Kill, and Cobra, what comes to mind?  How about cheesy, over-the-top action with explosions and bad guys getting their asses handed to them in every scene!  Well now we have a new name to add to that list: The StabilizerPeter O’Brian (star of Rambu (aka The Intruder) ) has made it back to Internal Bleeding in a movie we like to think of as “unintentionally classic”.  Rambu gave you just a taste of American actors in an Indonesian film, but this movie takes it to new heights never before reached in cinema history.  Let’s dive in and see why Peter O’Brian is called The Stabilizer!

The Intruder (aka Rambu)

Hmmm… Rambu…  Why does that name sound so familiar?  Could it be because it sounds eerily similar to that Sylvester Stallone character?  What’s his name?  Rambo you say?  Yeah, if you saw the box for this movie sitting in your video store, you’d think it probably had something to do with Rambo, right?  I’m pretty sure the makers of this movie were banking on that.  They even tried to make the characters somewhat similar.  This guy Rambu (played by American actor Peter O’Brian) holds an eery resemblance to Sylvester Stallone, except he’s lanky, and a little less muscular.  One of the characters actually calls him Rambo, and he dons a red headband to try to capture the look.  Unfortunately, all the toughness that headband provides is offset by the wet, saggy speedo he’s sporting in the same shot.
