LifeForce
Picture this... it's 1985 and script writers need some ideas (well, when I put it that way, it's 2011 and script writers still need some ideas!) Halley's Comet is coming around in a year and there's quite a bit of mystery surrounding it. It only shows up once every 75 years, and it's one of the few true mysteries that are still floating around in our solar system - why not write some movies about it? "Night of the Comet" already covered the zombies aspect so let's write our script about space vampires (actually, it's based off of a 1976 novel called "Space Vampires" of all things, but this is my review dammit so keep your hoity-toity literature insight to yourself)! We don't want to keep the title "Space Vampires" though, it might sound too cheesy. Let's change the title to LifeForce instead, and we'll make the connection between vampires and Halley's Comet down below the break. Also, be warned that some of the images below the break may be NSFW
Defcon-4
The end of the world... If you put enough credence into the news, it seems like it could come any day now. Nuclear war, religious cataclysm, nanotechnology, an astronomical event, Justin Beiber and countless other things could ultimately lead to the demise of mankind and civilization as we know it. Some people think it's going to happen on December 21st, 2012, but according to the 1985 Canadian film Defcon-4 it could happen as soon as the day after tomorrow.

Tony misses his dad. He left him 3 years ago during a trip out to their cottage in the country side - or at least that's what Tony's mom wants him to think. Tony knows the truth though, that a bright light came and separated him from his dad and took him away. Now, three years later, his dad Sam is back in his life out nowhere, and his mom Rachel and her boyfriend Joe have some questions. Namely, where has he been all this time and why did he leave in the first place?
Flash Gordon
It is hard to argue that this wasn’t the best summer ever for super hero movies. Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and The Dark Knight all spent weeks at number one. In fact the past decade has been huge for super hero movies and don’t expect that to change anytime soon. Back in the 70’s and 80’s Superman held the top spot in the movies. But he wasn’t the only one to grace the big screen… at least temporarily. When I was at a friend’s house for a 4th grade birthday party we watched the 1980 super hero flick Flash Gordon. I remembered very little about the film other than I liked it. And who could forget the Flash Gordon theme song sung by Queen (if you've seen Blades of Glory you know what I'm talking about). Actually most of the musical score was composed by Queen, and it is a big standout of the movie. So I decided it was time to re-watch the movie and see how it compares to the super hero films of today.
